Russ Davey sax booking information

Quite often people booking me have heard me play saxophone and sing live at a function in London or Kent, found my website whilst searching for a wedding singer, or had a demo CD forced upon them by a well meaning family member or friend. Regardless of how you stumbled across this site, it is important you choose a live music act which is suitable for your event. I hope the information on this page will give you an idea on what to expect when booking me or my duo to entertain at your wedding or party and answer some of the regular questions I receive.

Equipment:
I am fully self contained, with my own PA system and lighting. Please let me know where you would like me to set up (in which room or hall). It is also useful for me to be able to park near where I am due to play as my speakers are quite heavy and I don’t have any roadies unfortunately! The only thing I need is one power socket, and if your event is outside I ask for adequate cover to protect my musical and electrical equipment from the weather.

Insurance:
I have public liability insurance for up to £1m. This certificate can be emailed to a venue should they require it in advance. Most venues also hold their own public liability insurance and you should check this before booking with them. This is important as my insurance obviously covers me, but it doesn't cover the venue for their liabilities and duty of care to you and your guests.

Arrival & Setting Up:
I usually arrive 60-90 minutes before I am due to play. I can either be booked to play in the afternoon whilst your photos are being taken or whilst your guests dine. Alternatively, I can perform after your meal in the evening.

If you would like me to play in the evening and your event is based around a sit down meal with my performance afterwards, it is generally best for me to set up after the main meal and speeches. I usually set up whilst the venue's staff clear the room for the evening's events.

If you need me set up prior to your meal and I am due to be waiting at the venue for several hours before my performance, I often ask that a hot meal is provided (so I don’t collapse half way through the second set!) I am a vegetarian so if this is a bit difficult I do understand, but it usually isn’t a big problem for most venues, unless your chef is Gordon Ramsay, who I’ve heard may take issue with veggies... if that’s the case just let me know and I’ll make sure I bring rations!

Location:
I usually travel for up to an hour from my home location in the South East in Kent. Once booked please provide me with the name and address of your venue and postcode where possible. It is also useful for me to have a telephone number for the venue itself in case of emergencies.

Fees:
My fee varies as it is based on the distance I have to travel, which day the booking date is on and for how long I am due to play. Usually, I perform for:

• 1 x 1 hour set
• 2 x 45 minute sets
• 2 x 1 hour sets (duo bookings only - click here for information)

The set(s) can be altered to fit around your requirements for your event. The most common way for people to pay is either online or alternatively by cheque sent to my home address a week ahead of the booking date. You can also pay me on the day before my performance in cash. I always send an email receipt but a printed receipt can be provided for wedding insurance companies if needed.

Performance & Music:
I am often booked to play laid back music in the afternoon during the photos or wedding breakfast. I usually alternate between singing and playing sax performing a wide range of songs. If you would prefer more saxophone instrumental music this can be arranged.

If booked at a wedding for the evening celebrations or at a party I recommend my duo, as we have extra uptempo material which is better suited for dancing. Sometimes we are asked to play a slightly more laid back set first to ease people in, and then play more upbeat music in the second set. On other occasions people prefer us to play uptempo music from start to finish depending on the kind of atmosphere they wish to create.

We prefer not to use set lists, but instead read the audiences reaction and perform the music we think they are responding to best. You can specify which songs you would like played but it is a good idea to give us some free reign on the day so we can play what the audience are responding to best. A little more about me...
I am a professional musician with years of experience playing at weddings, birthday parties, corporate functions, dinner dances and conferences. I understand what makes an event work well and how to give the audience an enjoyable evening. With the exception of this website I do not advertise my services, but instead rely entirely on recommendation and word of mouth. My experience includes functions for Leeds Castle, Cooling Castle Barn, Arsenal FC & Arsene Wenger and Kent Police. I can also perform as part of a duo if you require it, please email for more information.

If you have any questions about the services I provide please contact me. I’m more than happy to help and if the music on this website isn’t what you have in mind for your function I can always point you in the right direction as I have many friends who are professional performers and might be able to suit your needs. Thanks for visiting my website!
